I’ve made several flag quilts. Everyone seems to like them and each one has generated a new request. The flag quilt below is my most recent creation of the Confederate Flag.
A coworker really liked my Liberty quilt shown below. I had created it to raffle off for the American Cancer Society and ended up raising over $1100. He asked me one day while purchasing his ticket, if I would consider making one for him incorporating a Confederate Flag design.
I have to admit, I almost said no because of the constant controversy about southern history. Some people I mentioned it to actually expressed their dislike that I would create such a thing. But you know what? It’s just a quilt reflecting a part of history. You can’t change history. I’m glad I decided to do it. I love how it turned out and am proud to have my label on it.
It’s one of my most creative quilts. I used fabric reflective of the time. I recreated the confederate flag and I located the “Generals” fabric. I took my time and enjoyed every minute of it. The backer is a “stars” on blue fleece.

I called my first flag quilt a “Patriotic” quilt. I also raffled it off for the American Cancer Society raising just under $1000.
After I made the Patriotic” quilt a friend asked if I would duplicate it as a memory quilt, adding photos, for a dear family friend. It was an honor.
Hopefully I will have many more opportunities to create quilts depicting our country’s flags, whether it be our current flag or one that is part of this great nations history.
